Heres some photo’s I took up in Highgate cemetery. For a place with lots of dead people it was very alive. It was a beautiful sunny day (the only one us poor Brits have had this year!), pollen was on the air, baby foxes (cubs?) were playing in the high grass and butterflies were fluttering in the breeze. The trees and flowers seemed to be taking back the graves and I wanted to capture that. If you like feel free to leave a comment. ; )

Ive discovered the iPhones camera is pretty good, I always feel really conspicuous with my Cannon D3100. Ive started snapping all over the place and Im getting some pretty good results. Ive also started using Instagram and found what the iPhone camera lacks in clarity the filters you can put on after bring out some really interesting results. Heres a few of my favorites.  Follow me on Intagram @theomayers

Now that Ive got access to the photography labs at uni Im trying to make maximum use of them. So here a few photos I snapped at the start of the winter, processed and enlarged before xmas.

The photo named woods is a one of a kind after I tried to scribe words directly on to the negative with a scalpel. Tiny writing apparently is not my forte! : (

Hope you like and comments are welcomed and appreciated. Cheers.

Heres a couple of photograms I made whilst doing my darkroom induction the other week. Nothing too amazing, but it was fun to get back in the darkroom after about 15 years!

Today I picked up some black and white film so in a few weeks Im hoping to have something to show.

Last week we participated in a workshop to help us understand principles and techniques for cropping. We made our own Cropping Ls and manipulated some images from magazines. Cropping is a useful and necessary tool which helps draw the viewer of an image in or change their perception completely. Below are a few examples and a brief description.

There are a number of different ways to crop an image, above I went a bit ‘old school’ and used paper. ; ) but most of the time software is used. Photoshop and lightroom are both excellent and widely used but its even possible for me to crop with wordpress when Im publishing images to my blog. Just above this text is a picture of my own Ive been practicing with, Ive been using photoshop. Its quick and easy, therefore I like it. : )

Feel free to leave a comment. Cheers.
